Our Heritage

About Saint Agur

Rich, smooth and decidedly different, our cheese is both milder and creamier than traditional blue cheeses. Saint Agur boasts a tangy, fruity blue taste that is softened by a luxurious creaminess, providing a perfectly balanced bite.

Saint Agur is a blue cheese from the Auvergne region in central France. The area is renowned for its production of blue cheese that has been passed down for centuries. The region has contrasting seasons and green-covered volcanic hills meeting basalt stone. The shape of these volcanic basalt stones have been a huge inspiration for the brand. This can be seen in the logo, the packaging of Saint Agur Blue Creme and the octagonal shape that a wheel of Saint Agur is produced.

How we make our cheese

The cheese masters in the small French village of Beauzac in Auvergne perfected the production of Saint Agur many years ago. Today they are the guardians of this unique recipe that combines blue mould and a wonderful fruity blue flavour.

The idea for Saint Agur came from French families putting butter with their Roquefort to soften the taste. Saint Agur uses cow’s milk, giving the cheese much more creaminess compared to Roquefort, which uses ewe’s milk. The milk used comes predominantly from local Montbeliarde cows within the Haute Loire dairy, a breed known to provide milk rich in proteins that are perfect for Saint Agur’s creamy texture.

Each cheese is salted by hand during production to help bring out its unique flavour. The cheese is then repeatedly pierced with needles during the first weeks of the maturation process to allow oxygen to flow and to trigger the development of its signature blue veins. The final step is to ripen the cheese for around 2 to 3 months in a controlled environment where it develops its pleasantly sharp taste and perfectly creamy consistency.

Our product range

Saint Agur is available in a traditional wedge format in the cheese aisle and at selected cheesemongers. The great Saint Agur taste can also be seen in Saint Agur Blue Crème and Saint Agur Blue Whipped, milder versions of the Saint Agur recipe mixed with cream or whipped cream cheese respectively. However you choose to enjoy Saint Agur’s unique taste, you can be sure that it will make you fall in love with blue cheese.

Saint Agur Blue Cheese

The perfect balance of the rich, blue cheese taste with a smooth, creamy texture makes this cheese literally melt in the mouth. Saint Agur Blue Cheese Wedge is the ideal blue cheese to add a touch of French sophistication to your cheeseboard or dish. Available in 125g and 150g formats.

WINE PAIRINGS

Saint Agur is ideally complimented by a sweet, white wine such as a Vouvray. The sweetness and delicate floral notes will enhance the flavours and saltiness of the cheese.

SERVING SUGGESTIONS

Tastes great when simply eaten on its own, served with bread or placed on a cracker. Try adding a bit of honey next time, the sweet and saltiness creates a complex flavour combination for your pallet. Also check out our websites for ways you can add this versatile cheese into tasty recipes!

Saint Agur Blue Crème

Saint Agur Blue Crème has all the taste of Saint Agur in a practical, ready-to-use format. This smooth, creamy cheese makes a great quick snack when used as a dip. It can also help to add a bit of a kick to your recipes when used as a cooking ingredient in hot and cold dishes.

WINE PAIRINGS

Saint Agur Blue Crème also goes well with sweet, white wines… but how about a cocktail? The Lost Orchard cocktail (featuring Calvados, Cointreau, apple juice, lemon juice and more) brings out the rich flavours of Saint Agur with the contrast of its sweet and citrus notes.

SERVING SUGGESTIONS

Great served cold, but have you thought of trying it hot? Simply pop the pot in the microwave without the foil film. After just two minutes, you will have an instant hot sauce to mix into pasta dishes or to use as a filling on baked potatoes. Please note: we would advise against reheating this product multiple times, try pouring some into a bowl before heating if you do not plan to eat the full pot in one sitting.

Saint Agur Blue Whipped

Saint Agur Blue Whipped is milder than Saint Agur Blue Cheese and Saint Agur Blue Crème, with a milder blue taste. Saint Agur has been mixed with French, whipped cream cheese to create the ultimate indulgent spread. This great taste and whipped texture was recognised by being awarded a Great Taste award after its launch in their 2024 awards.

WINE PAIRINGS

Saint Agur Blue Whipped goes well with sweeter white wines such as Moscato. The lower acidity and slight sweetness complement the mild blue taste of Blue Whipped.

SERVING SUGGESTIONS

Perfect for any occasion that you would normally use for a cream cheese spread. We would recommend spread over French baguette, drizzled with walnuts for the perfect tartine! Fruit like figs or pears goes well with the mild blue cheese taste.
